Pentatonix World Tour

Last Saturday, I went to the Araneta Coliseum to watch Pentatonix perform as part of their ongoing world tour. This was already my second time watching them perform live and I cannot believe how surprised I still was during their performance.

The group opened their concert with Cracked, a personal favourite from their self-titled original album. Scott's riffs and runs in the performance were amazing. I did not know so much soul and power can come from a noodle. They then transitioned, quite impressively I must say, to Na Na Na led by Mitch. I never would've thought of connecting the two songs that way. It proves just how creative and unique they are.

Aside from originals, Pentatonix performed a few of their covers and medleys like Cheerleader, Aha!, Daft Punk as well as a mashup/medley of Say Something, Radioactive, and Papaoutai. They covered two more songs as well: No by Meghan Trainor, which they previously covered on their Youtube channel, and Ride by twenty one pilots. Both covers had me dancing and singing because honestly, those two are jams and to have Pentatonix cover them is such a bonus.

They performed their lead single Can't Sleep Love from the album as well and everyone loved it! The crowd was snapping and singing along to the "yeahs" and "uhuhs". When Mitch performed the rap, everyone screamed as they lost their mind because Mitch rapping is honestly too perfect.

Hearing Rose Gold and New Year's Day live made me appreciate the two songs even more. Rose Gold is lyrically one of my favourite tracks on their album. The song is just so beautiful and full of heart. New Year's Day is such a great song overall. Hearing it live made me realize how beautifully the song was arranged. The harmonies were so beautiful that I had to take a moment to just process what was happening.

Their Evolution of Michael Jackson and mashup of Love Yourself/Where Are Ü Now had the entire arena singing along. They also invited some of their fans on stage to sing Misbehavin' with them. I was honestly hoping to be picked, but unfortunately, I was not chosen or else I probably would've started this entire blog post with "I SANG WITH PENTATONIX". It was great singing all the words to another one of my favourite tracks from their original album. Misbehavin' is a beautiful song that I never get tired of listening to.

Kevin had his own moment during the concert. He performed with his cello, Jay Z, the Bach Prelude No. 1. Kevin was phenomenal with his cello-boxing. Combining beatboxing with something classical was ingenious. From normal drum sounds to the sound of a motorbike engine, Kevin can produce and replicate sounds that one couldn't think of producing. Did I already mention that he hit a really high note in the The Way You Make Me Feel part of their Evolution of Michael Jackson? At this point, I'm asking myself: what can't Kevin do?

Another thing that I never get tired of hearing is Kirstie singing a solo. She performed her only solo in the album called Water, which she co-wrote with Kevin and another writer. Not only is the song lyrically beautiful, but the song also showcases Kirstie's angelic voice. Kirstie honestly needs more solos because truth be told, her voice is amazing.

Speaking of solos, Avi's solo during the encore left me emotional. Avi singing Light in the Hallway left me speechless. The song itself is already so beautiful, but having the group sing it without their own mics was an experience. Their voices filled the arena and left the audience in awe. A sea of lights emerged as the crowd turned on the flashlights of their phone creating a beautiful scene that accompanied the pretty harmonies and Avi's beautiful voice. This was followed by another one of their originals, Sing. Everyone was clapping, dancing, and singing along as the group sang their last song for the night. You could just feel how happy everyone was.

The experience was honestly so surreal. Hearing one of my favourite artists in the world perform live is something I cannot get over. I'm so thankful that I was seated near the stage as well because this made the entire night even better. I was so close that I could see just how beautiful they are in real life. I was honestly so starstruck when they came out at the start. I could not comprehend how it was possible for them to look even more good-looking in person because they already look so perfect in photos and videos.

I left the arena with a smile on my face that didn't leave until I slept that night. On the way home, I listened to all the other songs that they didn't perform that night. If that doesn't tell you how much of a fan I am of them, I don't know what will (the shirt that I bought from the merch booth that night might). I'm grateful that I was able to spend the concert with my mom. We watched Pentatonix the last time they performed in the Philippines as well, so I guess this is starting to be our tradition.

I had so much fun last Saturday that I cannot wait for the next time they come here. For now, I guess I'll stick to listening to them on my phone and watching their videos on Youtube!

All the photos in today's blog post was taken with an iPhone 5, so if it's a bit blurry, I'm really sorry. Also, a Spotify playlist of some of the songs they performed will be below for those of you who want to listen to it! Thanks for taking the time to read this! I know I haven't posted anything in awhile, so I hope this lengthy post will make up for it *nervous laughter*. I've been really busy lately, but I do miss writing here on my blog so I hope to change the situation real soon! That's all I have for today!

Until Next Time!
